UV update

August 4, 2010

This news ain’t gonna make Mike “The Situation” happy: researchers have discovered that it’s impossible to get a perfectly even, all-over tan (it’s the derriere that doesn’t get golden as easily).

And something else I’ve been meaning to look into that the New York Times has just provided me with the answer for? Those UV nail lamps. I’ve been using them more often than usual (have tested out both Shellac and Axxium manicures recently) and putting my digits under the lamps always make me a tad uneasy–I mean, what sets them apart from using a tanning bed? Nothing much, it turns out, and it appears that UV nail lamps “could be a risk factor”, according to this item from the NY Times.

I’m reaaaaaally iffy on that lol “15 years of twice a month use” – how did they track THAT? when I get my gel nails done I spend 1 minute with my hands under those lights – not enough to even a mild tan!

Don’t underestimate how serious some women are about getting their nails done, I don’t doubt the 15 years, twice a month!

“Ultimately, no direct link has been established between the UV lights used in nail salons and skin cancer. “No conclusions can be made based on just two cases,” says Michael J. Miller, senior science writer for NCI’s office of media relations. “Without a rigorous case-control study as a basis, I doubt that we would be able to make any determination about cause and effect.””

that’s exactly what I was trying to point out :) very questionable.
