UV update

This news ain’t gonna make Mike “The Situation” happy: researchers have discovered that it’s impossible to get a perfectly even, all-over tan (it’s the derriere that doesn’t get golden as easily).

And something else I’ve been meaning to look into that the New York Times has just provided me with the answer for? Those UV nail lamps. I’ve been using them more often than usual (have tested out both Shellac and Axxium manicures recently) and putting my digits under the lamps always make me a tad uneasy–I mean, what sets them apart from using a tanning bed? Nothing much, it turns out, and it appears that UV nail lamps “could be a risk factor”, according to this item from the NY Times.

Get your glow on

As I waited for my mani at the spa last week, I was fascinated and disheartened by the steady stream of customers coming in to use the tanning beds and found myself wishing the tanning tax was something they’d enforce here. The 10 percent tax likely wouldn’t be much of a deterrent, though — each of the perfectly bronzed and weathered looking clients (think Jersey Shore) don’t look like anything will keep them from getting their tan on.

Not that I’m not a fan of the sun-kissed look in moderation — I just prefer, you know, my health, and choose to get golden out of a tube or a bottle. This week, I’m trying out Mary Kay’s Cooling Bronzing Stick — anything to help cool off during this insane heat wave! If it works as well as the Cheek Glaze, it’ll soon be a summer beauty staple, too. I know, Mary Kary, whodathunkit?

Tanning addiction

A new study reveals that one can actually be a tan-o-holic — addicted to indoor tanning, that is,  much like one can become addicted to alcohol or cigarettes.

The study also found that those considered addicted to worshiping the sun also are more prone to abusing alcohol and suffering from anxiety.
