Fitness Swellness: AquaHydrate

Mark Wahlberg

Oh, hello, there, Mark Wahlberg.

I haven’t included this photo of Mr. Wahlberg gratuitously. He’s one of the peeps who’s behind the “performance enhancement water” AquaHydrate, along with Diddy (who’s a marathoner, in case you forgot). And wouldn’t you rather look at Mark than some bottles of water?

I’ve been testing out the water during my runs and it’s as though Marky Mark knew exactly what I want (he’s just so right in so many ways, no? Tee hee.)

Up until last year, I’d been drinking your conventional sports drink for marathon training — they don’t bother my stomach, the taste is fine, although the colour of every flavour is pretty disconcerting (I like neon bright for my accessories, not my beverages). But reports of one brand including a flame retardant (it’s since been removed) and the sickly sweet taste of drinking it for hours along with sweet energy gummies during my first marathon last year turned me off of it.

And so I switched to water. And while I still eat electrolyte gummies during long runs, I’ve been wanting another way to hydrate to ensure I’m replenishing my electrolytes during my long and oh so sweaty runs. And don’t tell me to drink coconut water. I’m not a huge fan of the taste of coconut water, plus you have to ensure the brand your drinking contains enough salt if you’re drinking it as an electrolyte replacer.

AquaHydrate

Enter AquaHydrate. The water is processed so that it’s purified, supplemented with electrolytes and raised to an alkaline pH of 9. Oh, and it’s zero calories, by the way.

In other words, what a girl (this girl, specifically) wants. It’s water, only better for my marathon training.

And it doesn’t hurt to have visions of Mark as I plod through too many kilometres…
