We’ll find a way to be happy

April 6, 2011

I like these findings soon to be published in Psychological Science: Seems that when something positive happens to us–even if it’s not the best outcome we were hoping for–we’ll still find a way to be happy.

The article refers to getting a great job offer, but the offer doesn’t include that fourth week of vacation, for example. I immediately thought of the Foley and Corinna purse I scored on sale, only it wasn’t the exact colour I wanted. (I can relate anything back to shopping, I tell ya!)

The researchers found that we’ll initially be disappointed, but will come around to being happy. It’s in our nature to think of things in the best possible light, so we start start thinking of the absolute value and rationalize our way to happiness.
