Travel Swellness: The Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Lobby Scent

March 28, 2014

Le Labo and Fairmont

My heart was racing when I received a package in the mail a few days ago.  The return address: Le Labo.

I ripped it open and inside was a charming wooden box with a personalized candle and a handful of bottles containing fragrance notes, along with a sweet letter from Fabrice and  Eddie, the founders of the niche fragrance line Le Labo, and Jennifer Fox and Alix Blum of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts.

Fabrice and Eddie are now embarking on developing the Fairmont’s Lobby Scent — I travelled to Grasse, France, last year to meet with them to learn about their plans for the scent. In the box is their first draft in the form of a candle, which features five of the main ingredients from the formula: the rose we smelled together in Grasse, Canadian cedar leaf, cinnamon, patchouli and clove. The candle represents the master scent of the upcoming collection. And now, the pair are globetrotting to create three extensions of the scent, which will highlight a local ingredient from their travels.

This candle smells delicious–so warm and comforting. And I can’t wait to see what Le Labo creates for the extensions. Until then, I will burn this candle and dream of that warm, spring day I spent last year in the rose fields in Grasse.
