Running improves your memory

Forget the gingko biloba. Cambridge University scientists have discovered that going for a run regularly leads to the growth of new cells in the area of the brain that boosts your memory. The researchers studied two groups of mice — one group had access to a running wheel while the the other group (the control group) didn’t. After a few days, they conducted memory tests with both groups and the runners were almost twice as successful at the tests than the control group.

There’s no clear findings as to why aerobic activity stimulated cell growth in this part of the brain but the researchers speculate that it may be linked to increased blood flow or higher levels of hormones that are released while exercising.
