Race Report: Toronto Women’s Only Half-Marathon
June 1, 2011
My four favourite things about the half-marathon race this past Sunday:
- My time: I finished in 124th place out of 1,117 runners. I’m pretty proud of that–if I could remember how to calculate percentile, I’d let you know what percentile that puts me in. And I was 8 seconds faster than my previous personal best time–woot, woot!
- The firemen at the water stations: Yes, some of them had their tops off. I would’ve snapped a photo but I was too tired to head back to where they were stationed along the route after the race.
- The camaraderie: Given the many loops on the route, there was a constant stream of runners going the opposite direction and everyone was regularly encouraging each other. At about 18k when I really just wanted to stop running already, I let out a long, tired sigh and the woman next to me said to me, “We’re almost done.” Which made me laugh (I hadn’t realized I’d sighed so obviously), and I kept repeating her words to myself until I got to the finish line.
- The bag of potato chips we got post-race: It doesn’t take a lot to make me happy–and potato chips are my favourite food (well, one of them).

Congrats! If I ran, I would have finished 1,117! LOL

Thanks! BTW there ain’t nothing wrong with 1,117th! You’d have completed the race and that’s what matters! 🙂

That’s great, Karen! Congrats on your amazing time! I think whenever you’ve got shirtless firemen, potato chips and personal bests all in one race, it’s a victory for all womankind!

Thanks!!! And let’s not forget the chocolate that was handed out as well!
