Beauty Swellness: Schick Hydro Silk Taking Strides, Sharing Stories (psst, there’s a giveaway here!)

May 14, 2014

Schick Hydro Silk Sensitive Care Razor

All too often, we don’t get the opportunity to pat ourselves on the back or to honour the ones in our lives that inspire us. To help recognize the amazing women in our lives, Schick Hydro Silk has created the Taking Strides, Sharing Stories online gallery.

And you can (and should!) take part. Think of the person that inspires you—it could be a story about yourself, or your best friend, your mom—someone who helps to make the world a better place. Share your story with me, in the comments below and you will be one of the first featured on the online gallery! Feel good about it too; for every story or photo uploaded, Schick Hydro Silk will donate $1 to a women’s mental health program.

Schick asked me to share a personal story about strides I’ve taken. There are plenty of things I’d love to improve on, but I am pretty chuffed about the progress I’ve made in running. I can remember struggling with running straight through one minute back as a new runner in 2007, and never in my wildest dreams would’ve thought I could complete a marathon. I continue to work at getting faster and stronger, and running actually helped me pull my life together during a very tough time.

And now I continue to share my training and races because I’ve been told by so many people (even from people I’ve never met who’ve sent me a quick note via email) that it’s gotten them to work out or to try running, too, and how it’s help them improve their health or even helped them through a rough spot in their life, as well. A friend who just started running recently called me the wind beneath her wings, and as much as she said it in jest, I was touched.

And as for women who inspire me – so many in my life, too many to mention, but it includes strong, adventurous women who’ve made brave steps to find happiness and ones who’ve picked up their lives after devastating losses. I feel fortunate to have so many incredible women in my life.

Have you take an amazing stride in your life, or is there someone who inspires you every day? Share a story right here on this blog post in the comments below! Your story will be featured on Schick Hydro Silk Canada’s online Facebook gallery, which goes live on May 22nd!

Oh, and let’s not forget — it’s also Schick Hydro Silk giveaway time!

Just for sharing your story here in the comments section of this post, you’ll be entered in a draw to win a prize from Schick Hydro Silk of a Schick Hydro Silk Sensitive Care Razor, Skintimate Mandarin Burst shave gel and a $50 Visa pre-paid giftcard!

Share your story (you must be a Canadian resident) in the comments section here by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, and a winner will be chosen at random. Oh, and your story will be shared with the Schick online gallery team, so it’ll be among the first ones to be featured in the gallery!

So do share! Get to it!

My big sister inspires me everyday! She has two kids of her own but when I had a baby three months ago she was there at the drop of a hat if I needed anything. Her support after a very difficult birth was incredible and she continues to support me and finds time to help out.

I’m inspired by a lot of my friends – both inside and outside work. Girls managing to balance a very busy work/social life, gals with kids & full time jobs who still look totally kickass. Thanks to Instagram, I’m inspired by a lot of my fit friends and their personal achievements :)

My mom inspires me. She is caring, compassionate and so encouraging! She has dealt with a lot in life and faces each challenge with grace. She has been a role model to me and I aspire to become like the strong woman she is.

My inspiration is my mother, without a doubt. She had a successful professional life and chose to have kids after 40 in the 80s, and went right back to work. She taught me a woman can be a good mother and still have a successful career. Later, her grace inspired me as she stood by father through his cancer diagnosis and treatments, and was at his side every day in his last months. Daily, she shows me what courage and strength is!

Definitely my mum – she always wanted to be a musician, and although she worked for a bank for most of her working years, she never gave up on her dreams and continued to take voice and piano lessons, as well as take part in choirs and musicals. When she retired from the bank, she was given the opportunity to be a full time Music Director and she jumped at the chance. She never gave up on what she loved, and now she’s living her passion every day. Totally inspiring!

My aunt inspires me and I cry everytime I think of her strength. I have told her that I don’t think I could do what she has done, and she often tells me that when she married my uncle it was until death do us part and she loves him deeply. Her husband (my uncle) had a debilitating stroke 25 years ago. She has been the sole income earner since then, and sole caregiver for him. He can say only a few words and can’t move around without her assistance. She has dedicated her life to him and she inspires me everyday to appreciate the little things in life and to realize that the problems of the day are really not that bad.

The person who has inspired me the most and continues to on a daily basis was my friend Rhonda. I say ‘was’ because devastatingly Rhonda lost her battle to cancer two years ago after fighting the disease for 7 very long years. She was diagnosed at the age of 40, and from then had countless surgeries as it spread, only being in true remission for two short months in that time. Despite this constant struggle of bi-weekly intense chemo, surgery after surgery, medications and more, Rhonda refused to let it get the best of her. She continued to be positive and active with her kids, took care of her family and friends, and even (like you Karen) trained and ran a marathon! This was a woman who encapsulated the meaning of the word fighter, right to the end. She truly believed that with what she was dealt, let’s turn the lemons into lemonade in everything she did.
Even though Rhonda is no longer here to inspire me in person, when times are tough in my own life, she is the first person I think of and remind myself of how she fought adversity and rose above it, and so can I. Rhonda’s fight had and continues to have a huge impact on how I deal with struggle and can’t think of anyone more inspirational or courageous I have ever come across.

My mother inspired me , She was diagnosed with cancer back in 2011, and unfortunately she passed away , but through out the whole process she had stayed very positive and strong.

My mom inspires me. She is such a huge part od my life helping me with the daily challenges of being a stay at home mom to 3 toddlers. At the same time, she is also caring for her sick brother and elderly mother. And as if that’s not enough, she also volunteers at a seniors residence, the same one where my grandfather spent his last few years. She does it to honor his memory.

My mom is the person who inspires me, she is always helping people by giving positive advice and gives back to the community by going to senior homes once a week.

My mom is the epitome of strength. Her father died when she was young and she had to take care of her family and help raise her siblings. When they immigrated to Canada, no one else in family knew English so she had the extra burden of translating everything. She took two jobs to put herself through college so that she could become a teacher. Her students love her and she is an inspiration for them as well.

My mother inspires me because she is the epitome of strength, unconditioned love, kindness and compassion.

My best friend inspires me. Her fiancé has had ALS for the past 10 years and she always finds the positive in situations. Sometimes I think my problems aren’t significant compared to what she’s going through; however, she always lends a listening ear, and will talk me through them with a glass (or three..) of wine. By the end of our conversations we usually end up laughing or talking about something ridiculous (or trying to remember people’s names from high school – I seriously need to download my yearbook to my phone…) Somehow she’s always able to put things in perspective and help others to see the positive in situations. I’ve never met someone as selfless as her, and she’s never once done it for recognition. Her Facebook profile picture right now is a quote by Babe Ruth which reads, “It’s hard to beat someone who never gives up.” This describes her perfectly, a woman who will never give up. :)

My 3 daughters inspire me, every day. I truly grew up with my daughters, as I had my first when I was 16 yrs old, second I was 21 and 3 daughter was born when I was 24. We have all taught each other so much and we are all best friends.
My oldest has worked her way through the Hotel industry starting at the bottom, and has worked her way to the top and is now the Manager of her own hotel. She is a single mother with a great 5yr old son, and has found the balance being a full time worker and mother.
My middle daughter whom has had a learning disability all her life, has voed to help others like herself. She struggled and fought through elementary, high school, and college to be a teacher for the learning disabled, and has help many young students. She is now a mother with a 2yr old daughter, she still wanted to help children and others so her home is a daycare and she looks after other children daily.
My youngest is in college taking computer/photography/web-developement courses and loves it.
I have taught my 3 daughters that they Can Do Anything, if they put their Mind to It… They do inspire me to also keep doing and improving everyday. Life is Wonderful

My cousin’s wife inspires me. Her positive attitude, generosity and love of life were shared with all those around her. Sadly she lost her battle with cancer this year but she continues to inspire me to live life to the fullest and to love with all your heart.
