Healthy Swellness: I’m a W Dish Creator

W Dish Creator

Hey, so I know it seems like all I do is run, eat and travel, but I swear I work as a freelance writer in between all of that. And one of my newest gigs is writing regularly as a W Dish Creator for the site’s health channel. So I create health…hahaha, OK, no I don’t. Creator is the term W Dish has for the handful of content contributors to the site. I’m in the fine company of ladies including Pay Chen, Sharlene Chiu and Jillian Harris.]

Look for new articles on W Dish several times a month (plus I’ll be tweeting links to them, too). My most recent article includes tips from celebrity fitness trainer Harley Pasternak on how to look fit and healthy on the red carpet.

Healthy Swellness: Take a stand for three hours

Anthropologie magnetic timer

How’s this for a pretty simple way that could help you lose weight: stand for three hours a day at the office.

An exercise scientist in England calculated that if you make like Ernest Hemingway and stand while you work and do so for three hours of your work day, you burn an extra 144 calories per day. Doesn’t sound like much, but when you work five days a week, that totals more than 30,000 calories a year — which translates to losing more than eight pounds annually. And that’s without changing any other habits.

Now I just need to find myself a chic lectern-style desk…think West Elm makes one? :)

Work less

study finding for those of you burning the midnight oil (and I know there are plenty of you — and I’m guilty of it, too, lately):

Overworking (working more than 11 hours a day) doubles your likelihood of becoming depressed compared to people who work 7 to 8 hours a day.

Perhaps take this as a wake-up call to get more balance in your life.
