The Weekly Nail Report

Nail-job craving: I saw the nail story in the May 2011 issue of Fashion Magazine and I had one mission and one mission alone: Must. Get. This. Manicure. (Major props to Leeanne Colley of Tips Nail Bar and Beauty Director Lesa Hannah on such a stunning story!)

How I satisfied that craving: I got myself over to Tips within days of seeing the story and asked for pink and orange, but I wanted the base colour to be a gel-soak off since regular polish doesn’t last on me–so I also didn’t alternatate the base colour and the tip on each finger as in the Fashion story. We ended up using OPI Axxium in Strawberry Margarita, and the tips are China Glaze in Orange Knockout (Neon).

How this nail colour makes me feel: Cheery and crazy ready for summer already! With some of the cloudy, wet weather we’ve been having this week, all I have to do is look at my nails for an instant pick-me-up.

Love it or hate it: LOVE. (Would love even more if the pink was a brighter, hotter pink (alas such a shade not available in Axxium or any other gel-soak off). And, sigh, because my nails are chip-prone, the orange tips, which are regular nail polish, didn’t last very long on me. But I’m head over heels in love with my nails and I totally think this would be a half-marathon-worthy manicure (but Leeanne is helping me brainstorm looks for my race, can’t wait!).

In the spotlight

If I were to ever take that morning surf camp I’ve been dreaming of, or if I had to trek to the loo in the middle of the night while camping (if I were a camping kind of girl, that is), I’m sure the minilight on these Teva Illum flip flops ($80) would be very useful in these circumstances.

For now, I just see them as the perfect way to show off a great pedi. 🙂

The Weekly Nail Report

Nail-job craving: Subdued. After the teal shade I sported for my 8k race last weekend, I wanted something a little dull. (BTW, as I trudged up a difficult hill in my race, I actually thought to myself “No Boundaries”. Oh, and in case you were wondering, I haven’t yet chosen a shade for my half-marathon in six weeks).

How I satisfied that craving: Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Commander in Chic 370. That little ridge you see a few mm up from my cuticle? That’s a Shellac mani underneath–I get pretty tired of the regrowth and sometimes of the shade that I’ve started polishing right over my Shellac and Axxium manis before I go in to have it removed.

How this nail colour makes me feel: At the beginning it seemed a bit blah, a bit too muddy in tone to be interesting. But then it coordinated nicely with my outfit (but perhaps my nail colour inadvertently lead me to choose that outfit…).

Love it or hate it: Like?
