Beauty Swellness: My Comme des Garcons manicure for the Philadelphia Marathon

20131108_145156

Nail-job craving: I’ve been wanting a Comme des Garcons manicure for awhile now, and I figured the Philadelphia Marathon would be a good place for it, with the hearts and Philly being the City of Brotherly Love and all.

How I satisfied that craving: Leeanne Colley of Tips Nail Bar just ran with my Comme des Garcons theme. “Just have a  nap,” she told me as she started on my nails. She used CND Shellac in Cream Puff, Black Pool and Wildfire. And the manicure “only” took about two hours (and that includes half an hour for removing my superhero Booyah mani), so relatively short compared to my typical marathon manicures.

“I bet you never thought once we started these ‘marathon manicures’ we’d be doing so many of them,” I joked to Leeanne (this is my fifth marathon, and this is the first time I’m doing two fulls so close together — eep!).

How this nail art makes me feel: Full of love —  for Leeanne and her fantastic team at Tips, for running, for my friends, for the chance to visit the great city of Philly once again, and of course, for my amazing manicure.

Love it or hate it: See above.

Beauty Swellness: The Nail Report: My Tips Nail Bar evil eye manicure

evil eye mani

Nail craving: I had a mish mash of items I saw online that had caught my attention in terms of nail — very playful and graphic and I knew I wanted to have an evil eye in the manicure, too.

How I satisfied that craving: I showed Leeanne Colley of Tips Nail Bar (I went there this weekend while traipsing around town in a Ford Focus for my #focusonmytown weekend,  more on that in another post) a few of the different things I had in mind, and she suggested the amazing maniecure you see above! She used CND Shellac in Black Pool Cream Puff and Azure Wish, along with two clear base coats and two tops coats.

(Coincidentally, doesn’t it just pop out against the vivid blue paint job of the Ford Focus?)

How this manicure makes me feel: I think it wicked cool so it just makes me feel more excited than the crowds at the Phillip Lim for Target collection launch yesterday! (and those people were cray cray excited)

Love it or hate it: Love, love, love. It’s up there amongst my favourites.

Beauty Swellness: L’Oréal Collection Privée by Colour Riche

Freida Pinto L'Oreal Paris

The Toronto International Film Festival is still going on here in the T-dot, and so far, not only did I get to see Taylor Kitsch at the gala screening of The Grand Seduction, I also got to meet the lovely and gorgeous Freida Pinto at a L’Oréal cocktail event the other night.

Loreal Collection Privee

Which reminded me that it was Freida’s nail polish from the L’Oréal Collection Privée by Colour Riche that their nail expert, Tom Bachik, suggested would suit me best from this limited edition collection.

As the official beauty sponsor of TIFF, L’Oréal has just this month released a collection of nude lipsticks and corresponding nail polishes ($10.99 and $3.99 respectively) personalized for L’Oréal’s spokesmodels. In Canada, we have Freida Pinto, Doutzen Kroes, Jennifer Lopez and Eva Longoria — and they range from Eva’s Nude, which is warm with a hint of peach, to pale pink (Doutzen’s Nude).

I’m personally gravitating towards JLo’s shades and must test them all out, but yes, Tom was right: Freida’s polish does suit my current tan skintone (for the record, I don’t tan on purpose–marathon training and travel has me in the sun a lot, and I always have SPF on). You can see my nails (and a photo of me with Freida and the lovely Michelle of Beauty Editor) over on Instagram (where you can find me under @healthandswellness! Follow me if you don’t mind photos of food, cats, occasional selfies, and running. Oh, and shoes, I do love shoes!).

Which nude from Collection Privée appeals to you most?
