Healthy Swellness: Greek coffee’s long-life benefits

The secret to living well into your twilight years? It might be a simple cup of Greek coffee daily.

A new study focused on the residents of the Greek island Ikaria, an island where they have the longest lifespans in the world. The researchers found that those who drank boiled Greek coffee (which is high in antioxidants and polyphenols and contains a moderate amount of caffeine), had better endothelial function (the endothelium being a lining of cells in our blood vessels).

While I could possibly buy this type of coffee at home, I think a trip to this island to try the real deal in Ikaria is in order; who’s with me?

Shop more–it’s good for your health

Scientific proof that shopping helps you live longer. For serious.

A study published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health found that shopping every day was linked to a 23 percent lower mortality risk for women. The researchers believe it’s not the possessions one accumulates living as a Material Girl that lead to a longer life, but rather the social aspect of shopping along with physical health boost, too, of getting out of the house and to the mall, for example.

Do you have the personality traits that are key to living a long, healthy and happy life?

Do you take after the hardworking ant, diligently plugging away? Yes? Then you’re more likely to live a longer, happier life than your joyriding free-spirit buddies, says 20 years of research conducted by psychologists from the University of California, Riverside.

Possessing “feminine” traits, such as sharing your feelings and reaching out to others, is also linked to living longer–for both  men and women.
