On the healthy to-do list: eat more broccoli

If you, like me, are trying to eat more veggies, know that to get a boost from broccoli’s cancer-fighting properties, the veg needs to be  lightly steamed (cook it longer and you cook away the healthy myrosinase enzyme).

And to give it an extra healthy boost, throw some broccoli sprouts in with your lightly steamed broccoli.

According to the University of Illinois study, you need to eat three to five servings a week to experience the health benefits.

(That’s a whole lotta broccoli. I’m going to start with one serving and take it from there).

The healthiest eaters

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who are the healthiest eaters of us all?

Turns out childless couples are the healthiest eaters, consuming 4.4 lbs of fruits and veggies more per person per two-week period, according to a new study published in European Review of Agricultural Economics.

(And that reusable shopping bag above? In my effort to eat more veggies myself, I’m thinking I need to get me one of those–it’s like a readymade shopping list!).
