It does the body good

Your best beverage bet if you’re looking to build muscle and lose more fat (and don’t we all? OK, that’s a little presumptuous–let’s just say it’s on my wish list) is to drink milk after resistance training, says a new McMaster University study.

Smartest women drink the most

OK, to be more accurate (but didn’t that headline grab you?), the long-term study conducted by the London School of Economics found that the more education a woman has, the more she drinks (those with degrees are almost twice as likely to drink daily, for example).

Get the Hint

I’ve mentioned before that I’m not a big fan of drinking water. But I’ve also  been more carefully examining serving sizes, reading the labels on some of my favourite juices, such as cranberry juice, and yowza, there’s a whole lotta sugar in one serving, which is just a fraction of the bottle.

And so in my quest for something not filled with empty calories, I gave HINT a try. And honestly, it’s way less flavourful than some of the other bottled water options out there, which is to say it tastes like actual water –but this, for me, is as it should be. There are some concoctions out there that I find hard to even refer to as water (‘water-inspired’ seems almost more appropriate for some of these juicy, colourful beverages).

So HINT is water, but with a little extra somethin’ somethin’. But how can it come in 10 flavours (everything from Blackberry to Pomegranate-Tangerine) and yet be all-natural, sugar-free and artificial sweeteners-free? Apparently, the company’s developed a unique way to extract just the essence of flavour from the fruit or vegetable but none of the sugar or calories. Nifty.

Which means I can drink this dressed-up version of water with abandon. My fave HINT? Cucumber — sipping it makes me feel like I’m lounging at a fancy schmancy spa resort.

HINT is available at the six Canadian locations of Whole Foods Market.
