Stand…

…and deliver yourself a healthier body.

We know that long periods of sedentary time is bad for your health–it can make you crave sweets and increase your risk of heart disease. And now there’s new research published in the European Heart Journal  that plenty of short breaks–as short as a minute–is beneficial to your heart and waistline.

So make it a point to get up and move throughout your day, even if just for 60 seconds. Go talk to your collegue in her cubicle instead of emailing her. Use the commercial breaks during Entourage to cue you to get up off the couch. Use a smaller cup so you’re forced to go refill it with water more often during the day (in which case, my vote goes to these gorgeous teacups from Anthropologie–love!).

Sounds easy enough! I’m pretty good at getting up and moving around during the day, but I’m sure I could be better. I’ll be making a conscious effort to do so more often now :)

Awesome! I have to get up and stop one of my cats from doing something (eating paper, scratching at the wall, etc) every 5 minutes, so instead of thinking of it as her driving me crazy, I’ll try to think of it as her way of keeping me healthy! :)
