Sole survival

I try not to wear high heels every day–love ‘em, but after repeatedly hearing what type of lasting damage I could be doing to my feet (like the recent findings that wearing heels daily can reshape your leg muscles and tendons, leading to pain when you don’t have heels on) scaring the bejesus outta me, no thank you! But on the days that I do decide my outfit calls for heels (can’t let my shoe wardrobe go to waste, can I?), I never leave the house without a pair of flip flops or Gap City Flats tucked in my handbag should I need to make any treks longer than three blocks–just following doctor’s orders to own and wear lots of shoes…

You should try the portable flats from Fit In Clouds. They fold and fit in a small pouch!

Good post! The other (cosmetic) prob of course is corns! I have soft tissue corns on the tops of my second big toes–caused by squeezing into heels–and now I have to see a doc about removing them. None of the OTC products work. And since it’s cosmetic, I’ll have to pay out of pocket for the surgery or laser or whatever it turns out to be. Argh! Should have worked in a flip flop friendly office!

Sounds painful…ugh, good luck! I’ve lucked out and am corn-less, but I find myself nowadays staring at my feet trying to figure out if I’ve got the starts of a bunion on my right foot.
I used to wear heels every day, even though I’d be hobbling along in such pain depending on the particular heel I had on. It took a coworker regularly lecturing me about how her mom (a former model) used to wear high heels everyday and the incredible pain and surgeries she’s had to go through for it to sink in that I needed to be a little smarter about my heel habit, or I’d pay the price down the road.
