Older, better, faster, stronger

April 4, 2011

“Harder, better, faster, stronger,” from Kanye West’s song “Stronger” is a bit of a mantra of mine (and it’s permanently on my Nike+ PowerSong playlist), but now I’m wondering if it should be older, better, faster, stronger.

See, the experts at the University of Michigan Health System say that progressive resistance training is key to building muscle and increasing strength as we age.

Need some more convincing? Here’s some info that may prompt you to add resistance training pronto: the average sedentary adult over age 50 can lose up to 0.4 lb of muscle each year.

Yikes. I know I’ll be heading to Pilates more regularly now, and incorporating more than just running into my routine.

Great post, I’m particularly a fan of the title! For some reason my body thinks age 29 is old! :p
But the song is a perfect workout song, will be adding that to my playlist!

Too funny. The medical experts did say you can see the beginnings of decline in the 30s if you’re not resistance training…that’s what you have to look forward to next year! :) All the more reason to “find your happy pace” :)

    It’s a great workout song!
