Making plastic more fantastic

June 21, 2010

A few months ago (yes, I’m very tardy on posting this) I went to Dr. Cory Torgerson’s office (he’s a facial cosmetic surgeon in Toronto) to check out the 3D Vectra Imaging. It was for work purposes: I’m not a big fan of cosmetic surgery myself (although talk to me in 10-20 years and I might be singing a different tune!) — but even so, I was intrigued by the machine’s ability to show me what I’d look like after a cosmetic procedure.

How it works: The Vectra camera takes six photos simultaneously and overlays them to create a 3D image that the doctor can then alter to give you a sense of what you’d look like with work done on your lips, nose, or any part of your body.

We, or rather Dr. Torgerson, chose to fidget with my nose. Which, to be honest, instantly made me self-concious about it. I mean, I’ve never been a huge fan of my nose (have always thought it was kinda bulky) but when you’ve got a plastic surgeon zeroing in on it automatically as the feature to manipulate on Vectra when you haven’t mentioned boo about what part of your face you’d like to see tweaked, all I could think was “He thinks I need a nose job!”

The good news? I left his office happier than when I’d arrived.

No, I didn’t actually get my nose done. Vectra allowed me to see that despite its rather undefined bridge and bulbous shape, my nose actually suits my face better than the more delicate nose created on the high-tech software.

I am tempted, though, to invest in some microdermabrasion–my skin looked so lovely and even when Dr. Torgerson  virtually microdermabrasioned my skin in the Vectra image.

Dr. Torgerson’s one of the few surgeons in Canada using Vectra Face Sculptor btw. For more info check out drtorgerson.com.
