Think you don’t need to be concerned about osteoporosis yet? While one of the risk factors for osteoporosis is being aged 65 or older, right now it’s important to adopt a lifestyle and diet that’ll help you prevent from developing osteoporosis in the future. Look at Gwyneth Paltrow; earlier this year she was diagnosed with osteopenia (a condition when one’s bone density is lower than normal, which is considered by many doctors to be a precursor to osteoporosis)–Gwynnie’s only 38.

One way to strengthen your bones? Eating a diet rich in calcium and vitamin D. Learn how much you need daily at On The Go Women. Not a fan of gulping down a glass of milk? No worries. There are tons of other options. Dried figs, for one. Throw a few into salad made of spinach (another good source of it).

Visit www.onthegowomen.ca for lots more helpful tips on boning up on your health. The new site offers a wealth of info including how to talk to your mom about her osteoporosis risk and what types of exercise will help strengthen your bones, along with some great recipes (we’re particularly fond of the Memorable Fruit and Nut Breakfast Yogurt).
