Foodie Swellness: Hangover cure

April 12, 2013

mojito

Those pitchers of mojitos might’ve seemed like a good idea at the time. And now you’ve got a wicked hangover. Well, there’s now a meal that’s been scientifically proven to help you feel better.

Yakamein soup — a dish that typically includes beef, noodles, a boiled egg, and green onions in a beef broth) — boasts carbs and protein to get you feeling yourself again. Plus, the eggs are key — they contain cysteine, an amino acid that helps remove acetyldehyde from your body. The findings were presented this week be researchers from New Orleans at the National Meeting and Exposition of the American Chemical Society. The soup actually originates from New Orleans and is often called “old sober.”

Want to try this remedy out? Here’s a yakamein soup recipe I found from Deep South Dish. I think it sounds like a tasty meal on its own (perfect for warming up during this very non-spring-like week we’ve been having!).
