Hourly wages linked to happiness

I don’t know about you, but my career goal has always been to earn a salary over an hourly wage (although I’m very much enjoying the flexibility of freelancing right now. Can’t beat working in PJs!)

But it seems that people who earn an hourly wage have a stronger link between income and happiness, according to a new study published in Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin.

Co-authored by Sanford E. Devoe of the University of Toronto, the study’s findings have lead the researchers to theorize that because hourly earners focus more on how their pay is a reflection of the worth of their time than salaried employees do, this influences the level of happiness they feel.

Your waistline’s best friend

Recent findings from a survey conducted in Britain by pet healthcare company Bob Martin found that dog owners spend a whole lot more time exercising through walking their dog than non-dog owners do going to the gym–with short and long dog walks totalling  an average of more than eight hours per week compared to a mere one hour and 20 minutes for dogless people. Furthermore, 86 percent of dog owners enjoy walking their pets, compared to the mere 16 percent who enjoy their gym workouts.

My personal trainer, Monroe, for a few days this fall

I can see how walking a dog would be so much more enjoyable. I recently helped out a friend with walking her French bulldog, Monroe, for a couple of days when her regular walker was unavailable. He was so obedient that I didn’t even need to put all the tricks I’d learned from watching Cesar Millan into practice.

Each day, I spent over one hour walking him, not to mention having to fetch the ball when Monroe chose not to retrieve it (which was about half the time) so I figure I factored in bit of light jogging and forward bends into the “workout”, too. I was so enamoured with Monroe, though, that I didn’t even really notice. And exercise that’s so fun you don’t even realize you’re getting a workout? Love it.
