Style Swellness: Bags and totes at Indigo

double zip backpack

It’s back to school and even though I’m not heading into the classroom, I still think this calls for a new bag…We have more things to carry in the fall season, don’t we? OK, just trying to rationalize adding another handbag to the collection.

This fall at Indigo (yes, where you buy your books and more) comes an expanded selection of bags and totes. The pieces are faux leather but the good-enough-you-have-to-check-twice-and-touch-it kind (not super plastic-y and cheap-looking variety). Many people would probably have to fact check via the tag inside to be certain that’s it’s not the real deal.

My pick: the double-zip backpack in burgundy pebble. The richness of the colour makes it stand out more than your basic black, and the size is perfect for the daily essentials of my cell phone, extra phone battery, wallet, lipstick, brush, snacks (hello, I need to avoid getting hangry) and whatever novel I have on the go (I’m currently trying to finish up Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, but I might put it aside so I can read The Martian: A Novel by Andy Weir, which is the September pick for the #IndigoBookClub so that I can take part in the Twitter chat with the author on Wednesday, September 30, 2015). I love that joining this book club has gotten me to start reading again (even though it’s still at a slow rate — I used to devour many books a month, but fell out of the habit).

(Psst…you might want to read The Martian yourself now, too: besides the upcoming Twitter chat, there’s a movie based on the book, starring Matt Damon, that’s coming out in October.)

To check out the entire line of bags and totes available at Indigo, pop in or visit online.

Style Swellness: Canada Goose Spring 2015 collection

Canada Goose spring 2015 Trenton

I think we can finally put away our down Canada Goose winter coats. The magnolias have finally bloomed in Toronto and we’ve been  in the double digits for temperature for the past few days, yesss!

But that doesn’t mean no Canada Goose in our wardrobes until next winter, because they’ve just launched their first collection of Spring outerwear. There are 25 lightweight, technical jackets (including some Soft Shells) and they’ve applied their garment construction know-how and their knowledge of Canada’s unpredictable weather in creating the pieces. The Soft Shells are constructed out of a waterproof, three-layer fabric, but one that’s very breathable, and feature touches such as reflective tape (so you’re seen when you need to be, safety, people!) and Lycra cuffs with thumbholes.

In addition, there are three bright new colours added to the collection: Tundra Blossom, Torch and Altitude Blue. That’s the women’s Soft Shell Trenton jacket in Altitude Blue with Aurora Green I’ve got on here, which I put to the test on a predictably unpredictable spring day outdoors in Toronto. The high-loft fleece backing was a tad too warm when I set out for the day, but sure enough, the wind picked up and the temperature dropped within an hour and the jacket was just perfect for the conditions. I can’t wait to test it out hiking and on other outdoor adventures.

The Canada Goose Spring collection is currently available at Canada Goose Authorized Retailers around the world. For more information, visit www.canadagoose.com.

Style Swellness: Apolis Market Bag

image

To market, to market…

So didja know me and Gisele Bundchen are like total twinsies? I mean, isn’t it obvious? No?

I not only tried on the Kenzo sweatshirt she has on here a few days ago(but decided against dropping that amount of cash — $495 — on a sweatshirt), I own the same Apolis Market Bag she’s toting.

I received the Apolis Market Bag on a press trip to Philly (where I’ll be in less than two weeks to run the marathon!) and I can’t get enough of it. The luxe leather handles. The waterproof lining that keeps the insides easily wipe down-able. It’s just so well made — I look forward to using it for years to come. It’s perfect for quick stops into the market to pick up a few ingredients for dinner.

I’ve got my eye on their Standard Tote, too, with the shoulder straps…
