Friendly colleagues will help you live longer

That pal at the office you go to grab coffee with every morning? Or that one you know you can confide in when your boss drives you batty? They often feel like lifesavers, especially when things are insane at the office, and it turns out they may be helping increase your lifespan.

According to a study from Tel Aviv University, the social support you get from coworkers at work is linked to reduced risk of death over a 20-year period. Buddies with the boss? This relationship showed no similar benefits to your health.

Social beings suffer from lack of sleep

“It’s my party and I’ll suffer more from lack of zzz’s if I want to. Or even if I don’t want to.”

Alright, that’s not how that song goes but it’s what came to mind when reading about a new study from the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. The researchers found that social butterflies don’t perform as well as introverts after limited sleep time in terms of alertness, suggesting that the socializing taxes our brains in such a way that we need to snooze to get back up to speed.

A good enough reason to sleep in after your next party…

P.S. Social butterflies need great invites for all their chic get-togethers. Loving the modern stationery, such as the invite above from minted.com.
