The Nail Report — Marathon “mani a la mod”

Nail-job craving: I’m running my second marathon this Sunday (the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon) so you know what that means…a marathon manicure with Leeanne at  Tips Nail Bar.

How I satisfied that craving: Leeanne proposed “mani a la mod,” a graphic 60s-ish look (you might recognize it as she did the look for the September issue of Fashion). She used Shellac in Blackpool and China Glaze in White on White.

It took nearly three hours to complete, and when Leeanne was going practically cross-eyed creating the intricate patterns, I asked her if it was any comfort that I’d be running for longer than the manicure took to create. She said that she couldn’t ever run a marathon (but she so could!) and so this is her way of running one.

How this nail colour make me feel: Focused on the race. When my mind wanders, I catch a glimpse of my nails and prepare mentally for running the looong race.

Love it or hate it: Love. And it’s fashion-y so it’s totes wearable post-marathon for, like, real life.

The Nail Report

Nail-job craving: I just spent two weeks hopping about London, Mallorca and Rome on vacation (hence my disappearance blog-posting-wise, sorry!). For my trip, I just wanted something cheerful, more summery since the weather was going to be warm in my latter two stops.

How I satisfied that craving: At Tips Nail Bar, Melissa Forrest proposed doing a silhouette mani (have never had one before) and then suggested Entity in Not Off the Rack (that’s the coral-ish shade) topped with Artistic Color Gloss in Tease.

How this nail colour make me feel: Good — got loads of compliments on my nails during my trip.

Love it or hate it: Love the colour combination. I’m not so sure on the silhouette mani overall for me; I like the simplicity of it, but I think I prefer the V-gap.

The Nail Report — Nicole by OPI partners with Selena Gomez

Nail-job craving: I attend a Nicole by OPI media event today and one of the collections they’ll be launching in January 2013 is a partnership with Selena Gomez! I’ve been in a bit of a hiding-out mode lately, so I felt like something subdued and pretty.

How I satisfied that craving: With Selena, a very feminine pink shade, which Suzi Weiss-Fischmann (artistic director for Nicole by OPI) told me is Gomez’s favourite.

How this nail colour make me feel: Girly and sweet.

Love it or hate it: Love.

And I love the rest of the collection, too! Check out all 14 shades from the Selena Gomez Nicole by OPI collection:
