Travel Swellness: The cabanas and pool party scene in Las Vegas

Rehab LV

In July, I felt like I got to go on the spring breaks I never took in university. How’s that? I got to check out the daytime pool party scene in Vegas, but in the best way–from the comfort of the luxe cabanas (I was on a press trip). One VIP cabana (the one we had at Hard Rock for the Rehab LV party, decked out with our own private pool) normally rings in at $10,000. At Tao Beach Club, where the bikini-clad staff had the hottest bods of any of the pool parties we checked out (major workout motivation!), the Veuve was flowing and the party was jumpin’, jumpin’.

And let me tell you, non-spring-breaker me loved every second.

I know–you might think tacky and just not your thing, but I dare you to go and not have fun. (But yes, it helps if you’re doing it on one very generous account :)

For the scoop on three of the parties and cabanas, check out my post over at AmongMen.

Tips for entertaining over the holidays

This week’s posts are (mostly) all focused on entertaining over the holidays! Enjoy!

Last week, I attended a Skinnygirl Cocktails event hosted by my friend the lovely Chantel Guertin, who shared some fun tips on hosting a party over the holidays — these were my faves:

Do a “dress rehearsal” of your party outfit. That way you’ll realize ahead of time that you have a run in your stockings or that you don’t have the right shoes for the outfit. (I like how Chantel thinks — reason to shop, yo!)

Go now and buy a case of the wines and other beverages you’ll need for the entire holiday season. This way you’re stocked up well in advance and won’t have to deal with long lines at the liquor store. Also, this way you’re also not scrambling to find a bottle of white for your guests and possibly forced to open up the fancy, expensive one you were saving for a special occasion.

Your table setting doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Invest in some decor staples such as your tablecloth, tableware and napkins in timeless colours such as white, silver and gold and then add inexpensive accessories in with a trendy colour each holiday season so your guests can enjoy what feels like a pretty new table each year. (Above is a pic of the pricey table setting from the event — it was the one I preferred. Darn me and my expensive taste!)

Have a signature drink to greet your guests with. It’s best to keep it simple (so, yes, the ready-to-serve Skinnygirl Cocktails work well). (Having had to hurry to make several bowls of a fancy sangria at a party I hosted years ago when it disappeared way faster than I expected — my friends are such lushes! — I’ve learned my lesson and totally agree about keeping it simple with the cocktails you serve at a party–wouldn’t you rather be spending time with your guests?)
