Travel Swellness: Pretty Palm Springs

IMG_3143

The first time I went to Palm Springs several years ago, I remember missing not being by the ocean. It felt strange to be in hot, sunny Cali and yet nowhere near water. But that trip, and and more so during my visit to Palm Springs last year, I’ve come to love this desert city for the design, food, mountains and yes, all that sunshine. There are pools, after all, to cool off in. Like the one at the Saguaro Palm Springs, where I stayed this trip.

While I loved my stay at the Saguaro, for a different type of vacation, my next visit to Palm Springs, I’d love to go down with my squad and rent the On the Rocks home all for ourselves. This is the sexy master bedroom; the entire house, is beautifully decorated, with stunning custom art work, and there’s a very glamorous pool with a fantastic view of the city.

It’s not all about living this luxe life, though. You can go out and be amongst the native palm trees…

…and go check out the San Andreas Fault and hike in slot canyons.

And eat at James Beard Award-winning restaurants (this is Workshop Kitchen + Bar, where I enjoyed my favourite meal of this trip).

And there’s also all of the incredible mid-century modern homes. We played peeping tom — well, we took a tour of celeb homes — and this is is Leonardo Di Caprio’s Palm Spring’s pad. Pardon me, Oscar winner Leo Di Caprio.

But for the full story on how to best spend 48 hours in Palm Springs, you’ll have to check out my article published on AmongMen. Now, let me get back to figuring out when I’m goin’ back to Cali…

Travel Swellness: The Parker Palm Springs

Jonathan Adler iPhone 4 case

In love with the graphic Jonathan Adler iPhone I nabbed at the Eluxe sale last week.

But my little $10 purchase may end up costing me a whole lot. All I can think of now is the Parker Palm Springs — it was designed by Adler — and how I want to go to there.

Palm Springs (Nov 2009)

The gardens are jaw-droppingly gorgeous (bonus: there was a cute bunny hopping about!); the colourful decor is happy and invigorating; and that spiked lemonade totally hit the spot on the sunny day I was there. My photos really don’t do it justice. I loved it all so much I vowed to return to stay there (there are few hotels that make me feel that way), and today I realize it’s been more than three years since I was there.

And with the c-c-cold temps we’re enjoying in Toronto, the Parker is sounding pretty perfect to me right now.

Where would you rather be today, or where are you (lucky you!) actually traveling to soon?
