Fitness Swellness: Yoga for better brain function

upward dog

Yoga, more so than aerobic workouts, will improve your brain function says a new study published in the Journal of Physical Activity & Health.

The study participants were assessed at baseline, after a treadmill workout and after 20 minutes of hatha yoga. Post-run and baseline cognitive assessments didn’t differ much, however, after yoga, the subjects’ cognitive abilities improved. The researchers speculate the calming and self-awareness of a yoga practice may translate positively to your regular life activities.

So, who’s in for Om T.O. and the Lole White Session next week?

Fitness Swellness: Free yoga classes at Om T.O. on June 21st

Lole I Glow Yoga Mat

Plan to take some time off on Friday, June 21, 2013, if you can and grab your yoga mat and head on over to the gorgeous historic Distillery District in Toronto for some free yoga classes at Om T.O.

Just launching this year, the event (the brainchild of the owner of Spynga and the editor-in-chief, founder and publisher of Tonic Magazine) will include 40-minute yoga classes from 10AM until 6PM. For a small donation–all donations will go to Colon Cancer Canada–you can rent a Lululemon mat there. For a bigger pledge (starting from $300), you can reserve your mat in advance.

Plus, there’ll be a market there with vendors including Rosedale Wellness Centre, Yogaga and MWL Jewelry.

I plan on going for a class with my sunshine-yellow mat from Lole, so see you there!
