The Weekly Nail Report

Nail-job craving: With my knees still healing from my fall, I’ve been in a pretty deep funk so I was in the mood for something cheerful to lift my spirits.

How I satisfied that craving: I started with two coats of Essie Instant Hot — it’s a slightly sparkly pearl shade; this is so I’d have an opaque base to make the neon colour I was putting on top, Essie Lights, pop some more.

How this nail colour make me feel: Indifferent? It initially didn’t really sway me much in any way.

Love it or hate it: Like. Lights ended up being more bubblegummy than I expected, and I wasn’t too keen on it for the first day or two, but then I put on my neon orange bracelet and it grew on me a whole lot more, so “don’t turn out the lights, now” (Get the reference? No?!? It’s that NKOTBSB song! :)

Enjoy your past, present and future equally to be happiest

If you reminesce over fond memories, take time to enjoy the moment and also look forward to what the future holds in equal measure, this is a recipe for happiness, says new research published in the Journal of Happiness Studies. Focus more on one period over another, though, and this throws things off — a balanced perspective is best, the findings show.

For example, I fondly remember the NKOTBSB concert last year, am currently enjoying listening to their music as I type this (I think I need to rewatch this performance in fact), and I’m looking forward to the potential future tour the two groups are in talks for (with Kevin — he’s rejoined Backstreet Boys, Oh. Em. Gee!) — OK, so maybe I’m looking forward to the potential upcoming concert more than the other two — I’ll try to rein that in!

Why I wish I’d run the Run with the Stars Half-marathon

Sure, I have a new PB time for the 8k distance, but I wish I’d run the Hollywood half on Saturday instead:

I’ve mentioned before the boy band of my dreams. And I discovered last week (ie. too late for me to plan to run it) that Joey McIntyre of NKOTB was running the Run with the Stars Half-marathon in Hollywood yesterday. The race raises money for Alzheimer’s research and he ran it in honour of his mom, who suffers from the disease.

His finish time? Pretty darn close to the times of my last two half-marathons. All this to say I could’ve run alongside him. Although perhaps it’s good I didn’t — probably would’ve forgotten to hydrate, fuel, etc., because I would’ve been too distracted (and he’s not even my favourite!).
