Travel Swellness: 4 great outdoor pools in Toronto

Radisson Admiral hotel pool

How you handling this week’s heat wave in Toronto?

Did you know the city’s public pools are open late during the heat wave? This is pretty much one of the few reasons I’d go to one. For this and to swim laps during adult swim hour.

But to hang out and enjoy some pool time? Not so much.

If I want to treat myself to a day of R&R by a pool with friends, I’m partial to having a chaise longue…and cocktails…and tasty bites. Does that make me a princess? Say it ain’t so!

Well, so be it. Me and my princess self set out on a mission to check out some great outdoor pools you can buy day passes to in the city. Check out the top Toronto pools roundup over at Travel + Escape.

C’mon, aren’t these Tojitos (Toronto + mojitos, get it?) at Cabana Pool Bar looking mighty fine?

Sweat Week: Cool as a cucumber

The Discovery Channel’s got Shark Week; well, I bring you Sweat Week — a week of posts on surviving the heat waves this summer.

Showering a-plenty with the high temps? Me, too. The best part of a long, crazy hot run is the long, cold shower afterwards. And my current summer favourite for showertime is Olay Moisturizing Body Wash in Soothing Cucumber. The scent is fresh and clean but subtle. I can almost pretend I’m on a spa getaway (cucumber always = spa in my mind, with all that cucumber water they serve up) (except not really since I’m just at home in my regular shower).

But it is a nice treat (and you can’t beat the price; each product in the collection rings in at under $11)..

Sweat Week: Frizz fix

The Discovery Channel’s got Shark Week; well, I bring you Sweat Week — a week of posts on surviving the heat waves this summer.

My fine, straight hair up until now hasn’t been the type that frizzes up, but lately when it’s very humid, it does kinda develop a mind of its own and poofs up. And while I typically will welcome volume, this uncontrolled every which way poofiness isn’t the same thing.

So my new favourite for taming this newfound frizz is John Frieda Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon Finishing Creme. It smells amazing, is lightweight and melts into my hair without making it greasy, while taming down the poofiness. I keep it in my handbag on days with humid forecasts (ie. every day, ugh).

(And to give my skin a quick little pick-me-up on the go, I keep Vichy Eau Thermale in my handbag, too. It’s got 15 minerals that’ll soothe, refresh and benefit your skin.)
