Beauty Swellness: The Nail Report

Kiss Gel Polish in Sweet

Nail craving: Something suitable for Vegas, baby! Last visit to Las Vegas I was running the Rock n Roll Half-marathon so I had some nail art for running the race.

How I satisfied that craving: What better than nails the colour of money, money, money to go with Sin City where everyone is hoping to win big? This colour is called Sweet and it’s a gel polish from Kiss.

How this nail colour makes me feel: It’s perhaps a bit soothing and subdued for Vegas — perhaps I should’ve layered some glitter overtop for some sparkle? But who knows? Maybe my nails the colour of money will help me win money gambling and I’ll be able to make it rain. (Update: I didn’t gamble a cent so it kinda made it hard to win anything :)

Love it or hate it: Love, but I’m thinking it’s more Palm Springs (there’s a bit of a retro feel to this shade, no?) than Vegas.

And don’t forget: Click, click, click! Not only is that a great NKOTB song (haha), it’s also how you can help me in the Activate Your Inner Champion contest I’m in. Just visit this link, read about my fitness dream goal and then click to vote! You can vote once daily. Thanks for your support!

The Nail Report — Red Carpet Manicure launches in Canada

Nail-job craving: After the bright and busy OP Magic manicure I had on for three and half weeks, I actually didn’t want anything neon or flashy. I just wanted something conventional and summery and girly.

How I satisfied that craving: When I had the chance to get my nails done with a Red Carpet Manicure pro last week, I went with a coral colour called Ooh La Liscious.

Red Carpet Manicure is an at-home gel polish system launching in Canada this month. The starter kit costs $75 (and the Pro kit costs $100) and the both include the LED light, along with Prep Max Adhesion Sanitizer, Structure Base Coat Gel, Brialliand Seal & Shine Top Coat Gel and Revitalize Nourishing Cuticle Oil. The kits are rolling out this week in London Drug, Rexall and on the Shopping Channel. In terms of nail colours, there are 54 shades ($12.99 each) in the collection — I’ve got my eye on the neon pink Star Power.

Two key things to remember when applying Red Carpet Manicure at home:

  • Invest the time to really prep your nails well. Use an orange stick or another nail tool to tidy up your cuticles and ensure your nail beds are perfectly smooth and free of any skin or nail particles. This will help ensure the gel product adheres well to your nail bed.
  • With RCM gel nail colours, you’ll want touse a very light hand when it comes to your coats of nail colour. Don’t worry if your first layer seems sheerer than you’d like it; the second layer will build on it and result in the colour you want.

How this nail colour make me feel: Just right for the heat wave we had last week. oh, and check out my nails. So loooooooong, eh? Surprise, I’m going to grow them so I can be just like Coko from SWV! Remember those?! Yep, by the end of summer, I, too, shall have corn chip nail tips!

KIDDING. These puppies are getting filed down very soon so people will stop asking me if I have fake nails on.

Love it or hate it: Love this shade. I’m curious to try out the Red Carpet Manicure system at home on my own and see how well it works for me.
