Drink dilemma

Beverage befuddlement (that word just makes me giggle)–here are two current news items:

Consuming fructose-rich beverages, including orange juice, is associated with an increased risk of gout in women, says a study to be published in an upcoming edition of JAMA. Women who consumed one serving per day had a 41 percent higher risk of gout compared to those who drink less than one glass per month.

And, on the other hand, over at Louisiana State University Agricultural Center and Baylor College of Medicine, researchers found that when comparing adults who drink 100 percent fruit juice to non-drinkers, non-juice drinkers were more likely to fall below recommended levels for several key nutrients, including vitamins A and C and magnesium including vitamins A and C and magnesium, and a greater percentage of those consuming fruit juice exceeded recommended levels for calcium and potassium.
