Timex is giving away an entry into the New York City Marathon!

I’m a little reluctant to share this info, cuz I’m totes entering this contest myself (and the fewer of you runners who enter, the better my chances!).

Timex is holding a Facebook contest and giving away an entryfor one Canadian to run the 2012 New York City Marathon. If you’re a runner, you know it’s a hard race to nab a spot in. The prize includes flight, hotel accomodations for three nights, the Timex Run Trainer GPS Watch (that’s it above) and an online training program for the marathon.

To enter, all you need to do is go to their Facebook page before August 31st, like it, and then submit your entry (click on Timex Golden Bib Giveaway) as to why you should win. They’ll choose 10 entries randomly and then choose the winner from those 10 based on the merits of the entry essay. You can get full deets on their Facebook page.

So go do it — enter!

(Or, erm, don’t…I want to win that spot!)

Swellness Sundays

(Anything I find swell. Posted on Sundays. Real scientific, I know…)

I’m not a fan of greeting cards and the like featuring photos of one’s kids or family. (Even weirder, I think, when you get one from a young couple who have no kids — yes, I’ve received such a card).

So I went to the Kodak preview this week to check out their new Picture Kiosk (which allows you to access your Facebook photos) without great expectations given my view of these personalized gifts.

What I left with, though, after much giggling while at the preview, were some of the best calendars evah.

I’d forgotten I had photos on Facebook from the NKOTBSB concert from this summer (aka the best concert ever featuring the boy band of my dreams). The girls running the preview even printed a couple for themselves — I bet they didn’t print anyone else’s to keep that day :)

Yep, some lucky friends will be getting these as a stocking stuffer so they, too, can enjoy a shirtless Donnie Wahlberg all year long.

Social saver

Could Facebook help save your life?

Perhaps. Seems that an active social life (that is, actually getting together with friends and family, or at the very least staying in touch by talking on the phone or via email, or Facebook I am presuming–as long as you’re actively using the social networking site to stay in touch with everyone) may help battle cancer. The study published in the journal Cell found that tumours in diseased mice reduced in size when the mice were in contact with many other animals.
