Beauty Swellness: Beauty rules you can break

beauty products

I shampoo daily. That’s right. Sometimes even twice daily. And I don’t always go to the same colourist or stylist. I cheat. Ok, not often, but I do.

I’m such a rebel.

For this, and other beauty rules you, too, can break, check out my article over on ElleCanada.com. Think of them as beauty resolutions you’ll can easily follow through on!

Beauty Swellness: Balmain-inspired manicure how-to on ElleCanada.com

20130403-001312.jpg

A few weeks ago I took part in an ElleCanada.com nail-art video shoot with Revlon Nail Expert Leeanne Colley. All of the looks shot that day were inspired by the runway (I scored the nail art that pays tribute to the intricate fabrics from the Balmain S/S 2013).

The final manicure is bananas, but even cooler is how Leeanne achieved the look. To see my manicure and the three other runway-inspired manis, click on over to ElleCanada.com to watch the how-to for the basketweave manicure!

Must-have manicure

Rihanna on set for her Rude Boy music video rocking Minx nails in Pink with Golden Moons

“It’s like having a grill, but on your nails!”

My friend was talking about my recent Minx manicure, courtesy of Laura from Scratch My Back Nail Studio.  I chose Golden Lightening — with Golden Lightening Cheetah on my pinkie nail for a little extra somethin’ somethin’ — and let me tell you, I’ve never had so many strangers stopping me on the street to ask me about my nails, or anything else for that matter. (Check out  my mani here.)

These bling-bling nails are from a company called Minx (fans of the line include Rihanna, Fergie and Beyonce) and they must be applied by a trained pro. It involves heating the thin polymer “shrink wrap” underneath a special  lamp. The esthetician then smooths it onto your nail bed, smoothing out air pockets and filing off the excess.

For more about Minx and other nail trends you’ll want to be wearing right now, check out my story on ellecanada.com.
