Snooze fest

I thank my lucky stars that I’m a good sleeper (my only sleep disturbances can be traced back to this one and her penchant for clawing at drywall).

If you have fitful sleep, however, it may be time to give tart cherry juice a try. Now there’s more evidence (remember this past post?) that the bevvie can help you sleep better: a study published in the European Journal of Nutrition found that two glasses of the tart juice helped people sleep 39 more minutes and experienced 6 percent greater sleep efficiency (ie. the ratio of time in bed sleeping versus awake) when compared to people who drank a cherry fruit cocktail.

Now go get those zzz’s. (Tonight, that is; not right now at the office!)

Dream away a bad day

Having a day from hell? Getting a good night’s sleep (so that you get some REM dream sleep) may help the day not seem so awful says a new study from the University of California, Berkeley. Dreaming, it seems, helps take the edge off of those painful memories — the study found that during REM, we have lower levels of stress hormones in the brain, which helps act like a soothing balm for your bad-day emotional state upon waking up the next day.

(And for your sleepytime? Some cute and comfy boxers — these ones above are from Aerie.)
