Beauty Swellness: Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Eye Mask

Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Eye Mask

Anyone who’s travelled with me and allowed me the task of creating the trip itinerary knows I can get a little cray cray with cramming in as much as possible. I’ve tried to relax a bit on pushing myself (and friends) too much, but still, I like to do as much as possible — sleep can happen when I’m back home.

So I’m super stoked about the new Bliss Triple Oxygen Energizing Eye Mask for travel to help me look and feel more bright-eyed and less weary. It’s 5.5 mL per mask, so it’s carry-on friendly, and how can you not love the little MacGyver-ish manoeuvre of poppng the fluid chamber (the fluid’s got actives including three oxygenating ingredients and vitamin C for brightening and evening skin tone) so that the fluid saturates the eye masks. (Oh, it’s got cucumber extract, too, to help with depuffing!).

I tried out the mask this past weekend in Philly and my skin felt incredible after — soft and refreshed, and it erased signs of the late night of karaoke and early mornings of going to buy delicious donuts (more on that later in my travel story on Philly).

Since it’s carry-on friendly, use it right on your flight if you don’t mind your seatmates’ curious glances. (I myself will reserve its flight use to an airplane’s private pod away from other people’s view — ah Cathay Pacific, you’ve ruined me by allowing me to experience the luxury of your business-class pods…).

Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Eye Mask, $65 for a box of four masks. Available at Sephora and The Bay.

Sweat Week: Cool as a cucumber

The Discovery Channel’s got Shark Week; well, I bring you Sweat Week — a week of posts on surviving the heat waves this summer.

Showering a-plenty with the high temps? Me, too. The best part of a long, crazy hot run is the long, cold shower afterwards. And my current summer favourite for showertime is Olay Moisturizing Body Wash in Soothing Cucumber. The scent is fresh and clean but subtle. I can almost pretend I’m on a spa getaway (cucumber always = spa in my mind, with all that cucumber water they serve up) (except not really since I’m just at home in my regular shower).

But it is a nice treat (and you can’t beat the price; each product in the collection rings in at under $11)..

Refresh obsessed

The forecast for the weekend: hot and humid. My plans? Stay cool and refreshed–and one way I’m going to do that is to whip up a batch of this incredible cucumber ginger elixir that I discovered in Napa at Trefethen Vineyards

Post-5k race at this lovely winery, the gracious Trefethen family hosted us runners, serving both some of their incredible wine and this delicious elixir (courtesy of chef Chris Aiken).

Making ginger syrup may seem a bit tedious, but the results are soo worth it!

CUCUMBER GINGER ELIXIR

1/2 cup cucumber juice

1 Tbsp ginger syrup

1 Tbsp lime juice

1 cup ginger ale

2 mint leaves, torn

For the cucumber juice: Peel and puree or blend 2 English cucumbers.

For the ginger syrup: Place equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan. Add 1 Tbsp of peeled and roughly cut ginger. Warm until sugar is dissolved. Let steep for 10 minutes. Remove ginger chunks. Cool

Assembly: In a mixing bowl or medium-sized pitcher, combine all of the ingredients. Whisk or stir until well incorporated. Serve over ice and garnish with a slice of cucumber, mint leaf, or lime, if desired.

Makes 4 pint-sized servings.
