Beauty Swellness: Mai Couture Blotting Papier

 Mai Couture

If you follow me on Twitter, you may have heard me natter on about my struggle to pack light. I’ve gotten pretty good, if I may say so myself — a mere carry-on for a week in the French Riviera last month! That’s major for a shopper and shoe-crazy traveler like me.

So a new discovery frequent travelers and beauty lovers alike (and I’m both!) will love? Mai Couture. These are blotting papers, oh pardon me, blotting papier, but with benefits.

Yes, they’ll absorb excess oil, but there are different versions: blush papier to pretty up your cheeks with a soft pink; one with salicylic acid to help your skin if you’re blemish-prone; and one with vitamin C and E to help refresh your skin.

Sleek in a slim gold package, they’re just perfect when packing light. Gives your carry-on a little more room for purchases :)

From $15. Available at Murale.

Topshop stop

So it only took me, like, forevah, to finally check out Jonathan + Olivia in Toronto. But it was on purpose. My own version of financial planning–by avoiding shopping temptation, my savings remain stable. Smart, right?

But now that’s all gone to (bleep!).

Dropped in last night to check out new arrival of pieces from Topman, Topshop and Kate Moss for Topshop.

And now I’ve got a mental shopping list going, which includes what I believe is a green version of these super cute sequin shorts ($130) . (Where would I wear them? I dunno! But sequins and me, I swear it’s like a moth to a flame).

(But the feather number above, $250, is most definitely not on my shopping list–after popping into J+O, I went to a screening of Black Swan, and no black feathers for me, thank you very much–go see it and you’ll get what I mean).

But what is covet-worthy besides those shorts? The Top Shop makeup–yes, it’s been around in the U.S. for ages but this is the first time it’s available in Canada. I haven’t tried it out yet but this blush in Flush ($14) has Health & Swellness’s name all over it.

Cheek couture

So at times I think I do you Health & Swellness readers a bit of a disservice.

It has to do with my obsession with beauty products. As part of my job, I receive a number of new launches to try out. And at times the packaging and product are just so pretty, they make my heart skip a beat and all I do (sometimes for weeks) is take it out of the packaging, and fondle it lovingly before placing it back in my drawer of products to try. I don’t want to actually (gulp) mess it up by actually trying it out. I know I’m not alone–my girlfriend S. compares new beauty products to crack (she practically hyperventilates when I present her with a goodie bag brimming with shiny, new cosmetics).

I bring this up as I’ve had this limited-edition Giorgio Armani Blushing Fabric Second Skin Blush in my possession for a few weeks now, weeks I’ve spent fondling and coveting the tube (yes, without having even tried a drop of it).

And so before it all sells out, you’d be better off reading BeautyEditor.ca’s Michelle Villett’s review of it cuz there’s no knowing when I’ll get around to “ruining” the brand new tube by actually using it.
