Starch power

A few weeks ago, I went for a fringe trim with Greg May of Greg May Hair Architects and he ended up restyling my hair, too, sweetie that he is. Lucky for me as I had an important event that night.

I’d ducked into the salon with my usual had-to-run-out-the-house-with-my-hair-washed-but-not-styled hair, and I left with a mane that looked lush and thick (so much so that a girlfriend noticed and complimented me on it as soon as we met up that evening).

The magic product Greg used on my hair? Greg May Amped Up — a matte finish powder ($23.99). He applied it in two ways: sprinkling it onto my scalp and then massaging it in, and also by sprinkling a bit in his palms, rubbing his hands together and then working it into the length of my hair.

My thin, fine hair felt instantly heavier (so if you’re not fond of weight in your hair, this is not the product for you, but if you’re like me and will do anything to add some heft to your hair, this is most definitely for you), kept its shape all night and if I wanted to pouf it up a bit I just had to run my fingers through my hair and voila, more volume! So I had to know what was in this powder? (which disappears btw once you work it into your hair)

“Potato starch,” said Greg.

(And if you love salty snacks as much as I do, your mind is likely exactly where mine went.)

You mean like what Pringles are made of?!”

Yes, said Greg. He named a few other ingredients as well but the Pringles ingredient is the only one I’m able to recall.

Anyhow, I’m all worked up over Amped Up–even if it does have me constantly thinking of potato chips.
