Florals don’t usually suit me. I’ve tried because I am sometimes drawn to them and most of the time they just feel too dainty for my style, but I’ve found a floral I’ve totally fallen for and as if the gym gods want me to work out more, it’s in a fitness collection: the Ted Baker Fit to a T activewear collection, which is brand new and in stores now. For someone who’s been reading beauty magazines for over 20 years (as a tween, a year’s subscription to Seventeen from my big sister was only the bestest gift, like, ever!), my application skills are embarrassingly limited, particularly when it comes to eye makeup.
But I so fell head over heels with this modern take on 60s makeup inspired by the look of the Valentino spring runway, that I’m planning on trying it out for my next night out. And thanks to a live demo and detailed instructions from P&G Beauty makeup pro Greg Wencel — he swears it’s easy to pull together — along with a few of CoverGirl‘s latest new products, I am armed and ready to go. Love it, too? Here’s how to get the look:
Eyes: Using CoverGirl’s Smoky Shadow Blast in Onyx Smoke (it’s a double-sided cream shadow) “start at the corner point where the brow point ends, low into the crease — the focus is on the outer corner,” says Wencel. “Then so that your eyes are not devoured by darkness, use the white highlighter on the brow bone and blend with your fingers”. Complete the look with CoverGirl Lash Blast Length in Very Black, which I’m told contains the nifty addition of nylon so the mascara is like lash extensions in a tube.
Wencel says that anyone can pull off this dramatic look, but if you have a wider eye bed, you can get away with applying a thicker liner.
Cheeks and lips: Keep the rest of the look “soft and pretty by using a really nude palette,” he says. Warm up the cheeks with a bit of Cheekers Bronzer in Golden Tan and dab some Simply Ageless Concealer on your lips (“to make the lipstick a creamier beige”) before applying Continuous Color Lipstick in In the Nude.
So, so pretty, n’est-ce pas?
