Beauty Swellness: The Nail Report

Lancome Vernis in Love manicure

Nail-job craving: Something dramatic from the upcoming Lancôme Vernis in Love nail polish collection (it launches in May).

How I satisfied that craving: At Tips Nail Bar (thanks for the manicure, Lancôme!) with the deep almost-black purple Rouge Reglisse, and an accent nail in Rose Boudoir. The polishes have loads of pigment; even after just one coat these colours looked true and solid.

How this nail colour makes me feel: Like I’m settled back into Toronto’s winter. The bright stripes I had for Mexico last week were a bit jarring for city life right now. And with the bright pink accent nail, it adds a bit of optimism — a sign of spring that’s soon to come, is how I think of it.

Love it or hate it: Love. I am curious to see how long I remain chip-free — this is the first regular polish manicure I’ve had in ages (usually I have a soak-off gel on my nails). “Well, if you’re opening lipstick packaging every day, any regular polish will chip,” Leeanne at Tips says to me when I started pondering the durability. I had a good giggle over this. Her example of my regular tasks — not doing dishes, not prepping dinner, not crafting, but “opening lipstick packaging.” And she’s not wrong, that is a daily to-do!

Beauty Swellness: Lancome Vernis in Love

LANCOME_VERNIS_IN_LOVE_RANGE

Nail polish-loving lovelies — Lancome is launching a nail polish collection, Vernis in Love! No longer will you have to have mere flings with limited-edition-only polishes (like this gorge Infusion de Prune, swoon!) from them.

The 20-shade collection ($16 each) launches mid-May and the polishes feature a patented brush with flat, supple ends and a grooved stem, designed so you can cover your entire nail in one stroke. And you indeed can cover your whole nail in one stroke, but with my (lack of) technique, I personally found I still needed to touch up the sides a bit.

The line is divided into three collections: Jolis Matins (light and fresh shades), Boudoir Time (flashy, punchy shades) and Tonight is My Night (deep, intense shades).

Boudoir Time, with its bright fuschia and deep navy tones are speaking to me most, right now, anyhow. My nail-polish craving changes all the time!

Today, I’m heading to Tips Nail Bar to try out Vernis in Love, and I’m trying to decide what nail colour to try. Here are the contenders:

  • the bright and happy raspberry Rouge in Love 112B
  • the dark and sexy Rouge Reglisse 473N
  • the delicate pink Jolie Rosalie 311M

Help me decide!

Beauty Swellness: The Nail Report

Nail-job craving: Everything’s sparkly during the holidays (the clothes, the shoes, the jewelry, the Christmas lights!), so after getting my Las Vegas Rock n Roll marathon mani removed last week, I was in the mood for something glittery, but not too rainbow bright.

How I satisfied that craving: With Stay the Night from the OPI Mariah Carey collection (in stores January 2013). It’s one of OPI’s new Liquid Sand textures, a matte texture with glints of glitter (Stay the Night is a matte black with red glints; the red is more apparent in real life than in these photos).

How this nail colour make me feel: Festive, but not too festive, which is exactly what I wanted.

Love it or hate it: Love. The matte texture is very cool (and much more subtle than a caviar mani), and my nails look a bit like a dark, sexy version of Dorothy’s ruby red slippers.
