Beauty Swellness: My Miu Miu-inspired nails for the Calgary half-marathon

Miu Miu nails close-up
My nails are more ready for my upcoming race (the Calgary Marathon half-marathon) than I am! So you know, the usual. More on that after the race.
As for my nails, I usually wait closer to race day to get my “marathon mani” at Tips Nail Bar but I’m traveling this week so I had to go today.I didn’t have a look in mind but was chatting with a friend on the weekend who suggested a look from the spring runway (one that was fun but possibly too cartoon-y to have on my digits for a few weeks). But then I remembered that I was fond of some of the prints in the Miu Miu SS16 collection.

I narrowed it down to these two looks and today, Leeanne Colley at Tips Nail Bar did her thing (aka made my nail art look come to life). The pattern is quite detailed so it took awhile and Melissa Forrest joined in and completed one hand while Leeanne worked on the other hand.

The nail colours used: a custom lavender shade Leeanne created, Shellac in Black Pool and Powder Puff, and Artistic Color Gloss in Posh.

The look is light but not too feminine and soft. In other words, exactly what I was hoping for.
Nails done. Now to prep mentally for my 15th half-marathon!
Oh, and happy 10th anniversary Tips Nail Bar! Sorry to miss out on the celebrations!

Beauty Swellness: My 2015 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon mani

image

Stripes for my Tips Nail Bar marathon manicure by Leeanne Colley! You know, to lead me straight to the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon finish line!

The nail look is from the Opening Ceremony runway. Leeanne used CND Shellac in Cream Puff, Black Pool and Gotcha, and Gelish in Mali-Blu Me Away.

I love it. It feels fresh and crisp and works well for my travels next week after the race.

Beauty Swellness: Kenzo manicure

Kenzo mani

“I’ve never pulled so many colours for a mani!” said Naomi Misu of Tips Nail Bar as she got ready to start my manicure.

Yes, it’s that time again — I’m running the Goodlife Toronto Marathon (this is the second time I’m running the Toronto Marathon) on Sunday and so I went in to get a “marathon mani” at  Tips Nail Bar. I didn’t have anything in mind last week but I started surfing the internet and thought of my Kenzo sweatshirt with the tiger on it. So I googled Kenzo and come across some nail art, but none featured the tiger. I also came across some fantastic Kenzo pants in a bright leopard print.

So I talked to Leeanne Colley, owner of  Tips Nail Bar, and said I’d like the Kenzo tiger, the eye, and the K (I’d actually almost bought the K sweater winter before last, I liked the K given my name is Karen) and mentioned that I liked the bright leopard print. She told me bluntly that the tiger would be very tough to do…

But then whaddya know…she sets me up with Naomi, who looked at all the elements I said I  liked and then incorporated them all into this killer Kenzo manicure. Took less than 2.5 hours (a big chunk of that time devoted to the tiger).

Love it. And love that she put one K on each hand…”as in KK, your initials!” says Naomi.

Now I’m pretty sure I need to download “Eye of the Tiger” as a power song for my marathon. Anyhow, no matter how the race goes, these nails are a personal best.
