Beauty Swellness: Pixi Beauty

Pixi Beauty

Target stores have started opening in Canada, what, what! (Remember when I met Bullseye at the launch event, and oh yeah, hello Nate Berkus!). I haven’t made the trek yet, can’t wait til one opens closer to me!

One of the beauty brands they’ll be carrying is Pixi Beauty and I snagged a quick chat with the L.A.-based makeup artist founder behind Pixi Beauty, Petra Strand.

What are your essential healthy to-dos every day?
“One, go for a brisk walk in the fresh air, and two, drink lots of water.”

How do you stay active?
“Running after my six year old — we play soccer a lot! My bruised legs prove it!”

How do you cheat looking fresh and healthy when you’re not really feeling it?
“Blush, blush, blush! Bronze Bloom Trio is the perfect dull-day remedy. Apply bronzer where the sun would normally touch your face with a large-ish, fluffy brush. Add pink or peach to the apples of the cheeks in a circular movement and a hint on the centre of the lids to brighten the eyes.”

Guilty pleasure?
“Oh! Soo many…chocolate, cheese and red wine!”

(And check out the gorgeous Eye Glow Cube palette above — so many flattering neutrals all in one compact palette; I’ll be taking this on my next trip!)

How to prepare and eat pasta more healthily

I love pasta. And eat it fairly regularly. And I don’t only look to eat it in a better-for-me preparation (or I wouldn’t have ordered the ravioli filled with goose and foie gras at Buca — my favourite restaurant in Toronto — on Friday night). I just don’t have it in this rich of a way all the time. Sometimes I have it with a meat sauce, spinach and sausage, or with artichokes and walnuts.

If you’ve been shunning pasta, did you know it can be part of a healthy diet? And if you’re looking for small ways for your pasta to be healthier — at least when it comes to its GI factor — check out my latest article over at iVillage.ca.

(That’s some pretty pasta I bought in Rome, almost too pretty to eat. Key word: almost)
