Ray Ban large aviators from SmartBuyGlasses

Done all your Christmas shopping? Me neither! But I’m almost finished and without hitting the mall much; every year I do at least half of my holiday shopping online. That way I can avoid crowds and save myself from waiting in long lines; it’s so much better to just shop with a few clicks (and even easier when using my PayPal account instead of constantly entering my credit card info).

Online shopping is convenient, but just like when I’m in the mall, I’m guilty of buying one gift for a loved one…and then one for me. What can I say, I’m a shopper. So far, I’ve managed to treat myself to just one thing thus far: I stumbled upon the site SmartBuyGlasses.ca and caved and bought another pair of RayBan aviators I’ve been coveting. The prices are good, plus I received mine within a few days of placing my order. They’ve got tons of designer brands, so it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re in the market for a new pair of sunnies (it’s important to protect your eyes from UV rays, even in the winter). Plus, I’m off to the Caribbean in January so that’s my excuse (erm, reason) for a new pair of sunglasses.

Oh, and if you’re last-minute shopping, for any glasses that say “fast shipping”, you’ll have them within three to five days, so there’s still time to order a pair or two before Christmas! They’ve got tons of designer brands (think Tom Ford,  Celine, Gucci, and more) and if you need a little help with your shopping, they’ve got a Christmas Gift Guide with suggestions if you’re shopping for a hipster or trendsetter).

Only a week left to shop before Christmas, get it done, people!

Healthy Swellness: World Sight Day and ClearlyContacts.ca and Change the View’s #whoblinkedfirst

FB-whoblinkedfirst (1)

Thursday, October 9th, 2014, is World Sight Day. And to help raise awareness and to help prevent vision loss, Change the View in partnership with ClearlyContacts.ca is launching a global #whoblinkedfirst campaign.

And you can help and it’s so easy to do so — all you have to do is share the #whoblinkedfirst video on social media on World Sight Day, and ClearlyContacts.ca will give the gift of sight on your behalf — they will donate a pair of prescription eyeglasses, Vitamin A tablets or UV protective sunglasses to someone in need.

There are 285 million people in the world who are visually impaired and 80 per cent of these impairments are preventable.

Just a quick share of the #whoblinkedfirst video on social media on the 9th is all it takes — you can even just retweet my tweet. Consider it your good deed of the day.

Contact lenses change-up reminder

Hello-Kitty-Contact-Lens-Case-Dual-Double-Box-Lens-Soaking-Case-lens

I’m not even going to tell you how often I used to change by two-week contact lenses — my goal was to stretch out how long I’d wear a pair (they’re expensive, yo!) so let’s just say they were going through a marathon’s worth of wear.

(I’m currently testing out Acuvue dailies as my eyes are apparently on the dry side. And even though I attempted to make last longer, you simply can’t wear save them to wear more than a day as they feel terrible on Day 2, so I don’t need any reminders to ditch and change them every day. And yes, I really did actually try to stretch out their use. Um, don’t tell my eye doctor.).

Now for those of you lens-wearers who have the type you wear for two weeks or monthly, there’s a handy new tool so you stay on track with your lenses changes, your lense-case changes (cute Hello Kitty ones above, non?), and your eye doctor appointments. Register for the just-launched-in-Canada Acuminder tool online and you’ll get friendly reminder emails; in a study, it found that the email reminders helped two-weekers change their habits from ripping open a new pair every 19.9 days to 14.7 days.
