Giveaway Swellness: Win a cold and flu prep kit from Shoppers Drug Mart

October 27, 2014

LB FACIAL TISSUE

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. Congrats to Andrew P. who’s won the cold and flu prep kit!

Oh, I love autumn. What I like least about it, though, is that it also means that cold and flu season is here. I still have to go get a flu shot — but as you know, even with the shot, you can still come down with a cold or a strain of flu not included in the shot.

Which is why you will want to win this Cold and Flu Prep Kit from Shoppers Drug Mart (valued at $150). Were you a Brownie as a kid. I was, and the motto, if you recall was “Be Prepared.” So make  like a good Brownie and be prepared for this cold and flu season and enter.

The  Cold and Flu Prep Kit prize includes:

  • one $50 Shoppers Drug Mart gift card
  • a humidifier
  • Life Brand Hand Sanitizer
  • Vapourizing Cold Rub
  • Electrolyte Maintenance Powder
  • Facial tissues
  • Digital Thermometer
  • Cough drops

Be prepared this cold and flu season and enter to win!

How to enter? You can enter in five different ways (each way counts as one entry, so go ahead and enter in all five methods!):

1. Email me at healthandswellness@gmail.com with your name and mailing address. Please put “Shoppers Drug Mart Cold and Flu Prep Kit” in the subject line.

2. Twitter: Follow me on Twitter (@healthswellness) and tweet:

I want to #win this @ShopprsDrugMart Cold and Flu Prep Kit from @healthswellness. http://bit.ly/1v6Up7x

3. Comment on this blog post and tell me when you’re under the weather, if you’re more likely to call in sick or do you force yourself to go into work/school? (btw, you should keep your germs to yourselves, people! Stay home and get better!)

4. Like the Health and Swellness page on Facebook and then leave a comment on the wall post about this Cold and Flu Prep Kit giveaway — tell me what you like to eat or drink when you’re down and out with a cold.

5. Instagram: Follow me on Instagram (@healthandswellness), like the Instagram photo related to this giveaway, and write a comment about what you’ll buy with the $50 Shoppers Drug Mart giftcard if you win this kit.

The prize is valued at $150 and the giveaway will close at 11:59PM on Monday, November 3, 2014. Please note that this giveaway is open to Canadian  residents only. The winner will be chosen at random and announced on Health & Swellness. If I cannot reach the winner within a week, another winner will be selected at random.

I’m a stay at home Mom so I don’t get sick days. When I was working, depending on what I had I forced myself to go to work because I didn’t have a choice. If I didn’t work I didn’t get paid and I was a single mom at the time.

  • 2. Marla  |  October 27, 2014 at 8:39 PM

When I’m sick I stay home because I don’t want to infect anyone else. I try to keep hydrated and up my vitamin c intake and rest :)

  • 3. Eileen  |  October 27, 2014 at 8:52 PM

I call in sick & try to rest as much as possible.

  • 4. Angela Mitchell  |  October 27, 2014 at 9:01 PM

I stay home when I’m sick unless it’s an emergency or I have no choice.

  • 5. janice Cournoyer  |  October 27, 2014 at 9:19 PM

I call in sick if I am really sick. I try to keep my self healthy.

  • 6. Glogirl  |  October 27, 2014 at 9:23 PM

I’m not working right now but when I was I hate to admit that I would often drag myself to work even when I was sick! If I felt really, really sick and unable to do my job then I would stay home.

  • 7. Ka  |  October 27, 2014 at 10:26 PM

I never take sick days. I have a coworker who takes one/two Monday/Friday off a month because she’s sick and it makes it suspicious when anyone of us take sick days off now.

  • 8. Owen Dovenor  |  October 27, 2014 at 10:39 PM

    call in

  • 9. Jonnie  |  October 27, 2014 at 10:55 PM

I’m lucky in that I don’t work outside of the home so I can easily focus on getting better at home if I’m sick.

  • 10. peachie  |  October 27, 2014 at 11:10 PM

I’m fortunate to not get sick often. I only call in for sick days when I’m really under the weather and know I can’t be productive going into work.

  • 11. Lori Bazan  |  October 28, 2014 at 5:14 AM

I just called in sick this Saturday but I was extremely ill. I try to just tough it out and work but there are times when you just have to call in.

  • 12. Brenda Penton  |  October 28, 2014 at 6:12 AM

If I am sick, I stay home and rest.

  • 13. stacey dempsey  |  October 28, 2014 at 6:28 AM

I generally stay home at least until the fever is past so hopefully I am no longer contagious

  • 14. Jason Russell  |  October 28, 2014 at 6:43 AM

    I battle through it

  • 15. krista gould  |  October 28, 2014 at 6:49 AM

Usually stay in the house so not to pass it on

  • 16. Sheila Hume  |  October 28, 2014 at 7:18 AM

When I am sick I stay home. I cannot stand when people go to work or school sick, what gives you the right to spread your germs around and make others sick. It is selfish and not fiscally responsible.

  • 17. Toby Collins  |  October 28, 2014 at 7:33 AM

I’ve never miss a day of work, boss appreciates it!

  • 18. nicoleroannef  |  October 28, 2014 at 7:42 AM

I usually force myself to go to work… I know, I know.

  • 19. Julie F  |  October 28, 2014 at 8:17 AM

I used to drag myself into work but nowadays I tend to stay at home for a day or two

  • 20. LILLIAN BROWN  |  October 28, 2014 at 8:45 AM

I would call in sick so I would not spread it around

  • 21. Karry Knisley  |  October 28, 2014 at 8:49 AM

I go to work. Unfortunately, it is expected of us to do so

  • 22. Julie  |  October 28, 2014 at 9:07 AM

It depends on the severity, and what’s happening at work. I prefer not to expose others, but I get serious guilt – even if working from home!

  • 23. Margaret Imecs  |  October 28, 2014 at 9:14 AM

I’m more likely call in sick but not always the case when I have to meet the deadlines by the end of the month.

  • 24. Carol Mccreery  |  October 28, 2014 at 9:28 AM

I try and stay home so I don’t spread the misery!

  • 25. Josh S  |  October 28, 2014 at 9:29 AM

I often go in to work to help the others out, otherwise we are understaffed. If I am super sick I stay home.

  • 26. Debbie Bashford  |  October 28, 2014 at 9:52 AM

I do what I always told people who worked for me to do, stay the heck at home…. don’t infect everyone else!

  • 27. BlessedTA  |  October 28, 2014 at 9:55 AM

I try and stay at home if possible.

  • 28. Madhuri  |  October 28, 2014 at 10:39 AM

I would normally stay home but if duty calls and its beyond my control i bundle up,pack my sanitizer, lots of liquid, tissues, vapor rub, vitamin c and a nice bowl of soup to go..

  • 29. Terri Baker  |  October 28, 2014 at 11:32 AM

I am a nurse, so I must stay home. It would be very selfish of me to go to work and potentially infect an already ill person.

  • 30. Treen Goodwin  |  October 28, 2014 at 11:39 AM

I never go out when i’m sick its not fair to go out spreading your germs to others

  • 31. Robert Wise  |  October 28, 2014 at 1:08 PM

Luckily I can do a lot of my job at home on the computer so I would stay in.

It’s not fair to make other people sick. If it was towards the end of my cold, I would go in if I had to. I would inform people that I was sick though and to keep their distance. I’d keep wipes and hand sanitizer at my desk. I would always wipe my phone, keyboard and mouse down.

  • 32. FREDERIC BROWN  |  October 28, 2014 at 1:23 PM

I worked…. had many years with no sick days

  • 35. Kayla Matchem  |  October 28, 2014 at 2:08 PM

I definitely prefer to stay at home in bed when I’m sick!! The more you rest the faster you can get back at it!

  • 36. Mark V.  |  October 28, 2014 at 3:07 PM

I tend to go to work

  • 37. John Kerr  |  October 28, 2014 at 6:09 PM

  • 38. John Kerr  |  October 28, 2014 at 6:11 PM

I am under the weather. I am retired and need this win! never won anything in my life! :(

  • 39. Janet Fredericks  |  October 28, 2014 at 6:34 PM

I am unable to work (disabled), so I stay at home most of the time. When I am sick( cold or flu) I make sure to stay home and I inform people who may visit so they don’t get my germs and spread them. Better to be lonely than infect others.

  • 40. Emilia  |  October 28, 2014 at 7:03 PM

I call in sick, even if I have to work harder to catch up when I get back

  • 41. Lori R  |  October 28, 2014 at 7:16 PM

Because I work in a hospital, if I am sick, I tend to stay at home, at least for the first few days.

  • 42. Tricia Cooper  |  October 28, 2014 at 8:24 PM

There’s that guilt thing that employers make you feel . . .

I go in unless I am really, really sick. :(

To be honest when I am sick I usually end up at work. There is not enough staff coverage for me. I wish there was.

  • 50. Jess H  |  October 29, 2014 at 1:15 AM

  • 53. Angie  |  October 29, 2014 at 5:22 PM

  • 55. nicolthepickle  |  October 30, 2014 at 8:24 PM

I’m a stay-at-home Mom now so I’ll usually just stay home. The sick days are the days my kids get to watch Veggie Tales on repeat.

  • 60. Elizabeth Vlug  |  November 1, 2014 at 9:58 AM

When I am sick, I stay home. I work in the health care system and know just how easily illness can be transferred. So I try and stay healthy.

When I even begin to feel sick, I take some cold meds straight away to help “nip it in the bud”. And yes, I do stay home during the most contagious days, & in order to get lots of rest & fluids into me.

  • 66. Carol M.  |  November 2, 2014 at 11:55 AM

I am rarely sick, but do call in sick when need be.

  • 67. sabina edwards  |  November 2, 2014 at 1:23 PM

well I got sick on the 10th and it lasted til the 30th, mostly a sinus cold, head hurt so badly every night… tried various products, including the teapot nasal thing, couch meds, sinus tabs, tylenol and advil, vicks vapour rub ..basically I just ended up toughing it out ..nothing worked for me and I couldn’t afford not to go to work for that length of time as we don’t ever get sick days

  • 68. Suzie M  |  November 2, 2014 at 2:04 PM

  • 74. Lori L.  |  November 3, 2014 at 11:39 PM

I am a stay at home Mom so this doesn’t really apply to me but when I used to work in an office I was lucky because I got 15 sick days a year in case I had to take time off. Thanks for the chance to win!
