The Weekly Nail Report

Alas, no new nails for me this week as I still have my OPI GelColor Russian Navy/gold glitter-dipped mani, which, as you can see, is still looking perfect 13 days after I had it done at  Tips Nail Bar.

But in the meantime, I wanted to share my friend Lindsay’s whimsical cupcake nails! I don’t have the patience or steady hands to do fancy nail art on my own, so am always mega envious of her skillz as a nail artiste – be sure to check out her blog Sometimes Fancy.

Learn skincare essentials at Nivea Haus

Just opened today (until March 11th) pop into the Nivea Haus Pop-up Centre at 379 Queen St. West (Queen St. W. and Peter) to learn about of all of the brands products (including the new Vital collection for mature skin) and get free samples, coupons, hand massages and skin analysis.

(While you’re there, be sure to enter their giveaway of a weeklong spa getaway to Banff, Alberta, too.)

You can also have your photo taken for your very own customize mini tin of Nivea cream. Plus, if you wanna be scared straight into wearing sunscreen daily or to give up your smoking habit, be sure to visit the Nivea AgeSimulator booth where they can show you how your skin will age up until the age of 72 (with the options to see how either sun damage or smoking will damage your skin).

The Nivea Haus will be popping up next in Montreal, March 21 to April 1st. If you’re elsewhere, sorry folks!

The Weekly Nail Report

Nail-job craving: I went to Tips Nail Bar on the weekend to try out the new OPI GelColor (thanks Langton PR!) and went with an open mind, not knowing what colours I’d have to choose from. In terms of the new product,  OPI GelColor is thinner than Axxium and cures in 30 seconds in an LED lamp (versus the two-minute cure time under a UV lamp for Axxium). For removal, as with Axxium, you have to go to the nail salon.

Anyhow, I let Leeanne Colley run with what she thought would look fantastic.

How I satisfied that craving: Leeanne suggested Russian Navy and then dipping the tips into gold glitter. And I think you know I love me some glitter, so my answer? Duh. YES!

So the process began: base coat, two coats of Russian Navy (cured in between each step), top coat applied just to the tips, then I dipped my finger into the pot of loose gold glitter, cured under lamp, buffed to reduce the bumpiness of the glitter, then top coat over the whole nail bed and cured.

How this nail colour make me feel: You may recall last week’s glittery nail didn’t have the power to cheer me up? Well, this one did the trick :)

Love it or hate it: Love.

The Weekly Nail Report

Nail-job craving: Something dark to match my gloomy mood. I suppose I could’ve gone with pink or red (to match my irritated enflamed eyeballs — hence feeling gloomy) but dark is less cheerful.

How I satisfied that craving: With OPI in Metallic 4 Life from the Nicki Minaj collection.

How this nail colour make me feel: My hope was that with all of the silver glitter in it, it’d help me feel a little more sparkly in terms of my mood. And I discovered that even glitter can’t perform those miracles when you’ve got persistent conjunctivitis and a cold.

Love it or hate it: I’ll revisit this colour when I’m in a better space (which is soon, my eyes are on the mend, finally!)
