Nail-job craving: Been dying to try out the Essie neon Poppy Razzi collection, which is out in May, but had a few other manis (including my Chicago mani) before I could test out a shade. But that graffiti-ish Chicago mani was finally starting to show some wear and I have Harry’s Spring Run Off 8K tomorrow, so it’s perfect timing as I tend to gravitate to brights for my races.
How I satisfied that craving: Essie Weingarten suggests doing a coat of white nail polish before applying a neon nail poish so it worked out well that I have the opaque pale shade of Artistic Color Gloss in Sassy on my nails. Overtop of that I applied Essie in Camera and then top coat as the neons dry matte and I wanted shine.
How this nail colour make me feel: Like I’m back in university — the shade is much like the pink highlighters I used to use in school. Hopefully it’ll inspire me to have the same energy and stamina I had pulling all-nighters studying back then for my race tomorrow and for the 32k I have to run on Sunday for marathon training.
Love it or hate it: Love. I’ll be wearing this shade overtime this summer.

Nail-job craving: After I made the mistake of not choosing goldleaf when Leeanne Colley (owner of Tips Nail Bar) suggested it to me a few weeks ago, I put myself in her skilled hands and just said I wanted a Chicago-worthy manicure. (I’m off to the Windy City for vacation).

How I satisfied that craving: Leeanne started with Artistic Color Gloss in Sassy, a pretty pale pink. Then, using small balled up pieces of saran wrap, she dabbed on white art paint, then China Glaze in Pool Party (a neon pink), then CND in Plum Truffle (a purple) and finally, some black art paint. Then using a brush anbd acetone, she tidied up the tips to reveal the Sassy (I think this step was a must; it cleaned up the look so that it looks on purpose rather than like I was overzealous in art class and got paint all over my nails) and lastly, a coat ot topcoat.

How this nail colour make me feel: Chicago-ready, after all it’s a city known for its’ art and graffiti. I’m pretty sure these nails will be conversation starters in Chi-town.
Love it or hate it: LOVE.

Went backstage to check out the Cover Girl and Pantene beauty looks and to the shows at The ShOws last night, which included David Szeto and Ruffian (and just found out it’s pronounced roofian, like the roof of your house, and not as in, say, how ruffneck is pronounced, which is how I’ve been saying it all this while — oops).

Love this suitcase ‘o hair extensions backstage for the David Szeto show.

Also, some cool illustrations from my fashion show seatmate, illustrator/comic book artist Adrian Alphona. This one’s from the David Szeto show.

And this one’s from last week at the Joe Fresh show at Toronto Fashion Week.
And these are the kickass nails Tips Nail Bar did for the Ruffian show — it’s China Glaze in Scarlett with gold leaf overtop (silly me, Leeanne offered to do gold leaf last time I was in to try OPI GelColor and I instead opted for loose glitter atop my Russian Navy, now kicking myself big time). Check out this photo of the Ruffian models with the nails Leeanne snapped.

(no pics of the collections themselves, sorry — my basic digital camera doesn’t take the best pics (or maybe I just don’t use it properly, which is very, very possible)

Nail-job craving: Earlier this week, I attended a media preview for the upcoming collections from Essie–Essie Weingarten herself was there, too (she had A List on her nails, giving props to Canada’s red flag), and the neon collection launching in May made my heart skip a beat, but today, when I got to go back to the Essie pop-up nail bar for a manicure, I was in the mood for pastels.
How I satisfied that craving: Miyuki from Tips Nail Bar hooked me up with Essie Who is the Boss (a pale, opaque blue) as the main colour on my nail bed and the tips in Cascade Cool (a purply pink).
How this nail colour make me feel: Fresh and ready for this spring weather.
Love it or hate it: Love.
