Scent of a woman

Hate the name, like the concept, adore the fragrance.
Womanity, Thierry Mugler’s new fragrance. Now, I get ,and (don’t get me wrong) am all for, the idea behind the fragrance’s name, promoting the solidarity of women. It all ties back to womanity.com, a site which was launched in March by Mugler as an interactive platform where women can share, learn and be inspired by each other.
Still, the moniker’s a bit of a silly tongue twister.
The scent, however, I love. Womanity is the first fragrance to combine sweet and savoury notes. (And while I knew that I like the combination when it comes to food, it turns out I’m a fan of the sweet and salty combo when it comes to fragrance, too.) The notes read like the ingredients of an appetizer from a molecular gastronomist–fig, caviar, fig wood and leaf–or maybe I’m just craving dinner at Colborne Lane. Anyhow, the result is, as you might expect from the name, very pretty and feminine.
The bottle’s something else, too. Not everyone’s cup of tea, with its very ornate oracle of the sphinx and ring (signifying unity) and chain (denoting the link between all of us ladies), but it’ll definitely stand out on your vanity amongst your fragrance collection. And it’s certainly earned its’ spot in mine.
Womanity, $86 (50mL) is available exclusively at The Bay at the end of August.
